Why is club_joss always Spike/Xander? It was something else like once, and i was busy that week.

I reread Good Omens (mostly aloud) on the drive home from Maryland and was struck by how much i wasn’t interested in slashing Crowley and Aziraphale. Though stuff like “Saturnalia” that deals with them interacting with each other is cool. I rather suspect they’ll end up on the growing list of fanon pairings that i get sold on in well-written fic but then when i revisit the source text i think “No way.”

I also need to reread Sandman series (and American Gods). (P.S. Neil Gaiman’s love for G. K. Chesterton makes me sad, because Chesterton drives me up a wall.) Of course, on diadeloro’s suggestion, i’ve started Sharon Shinn’s Samaria books, which is a whole lot of pages. Plus my copy of The Historian arrived at the library.

My brother was griping about current movies and i lent him my Firefly DVDs so he could watch Serenity when it comes out. He skipped the “Serenity” pilot because he wasn’t sure he wanted to stay up for more than one episode, so his introduction to the series was “The Train Job.” He next watched “Bushwhacked” and in talking to him later, he says he thought that was a better intro to the series (than “Train Job” -- he still hasn’t seen “Serenity” to my knowledge) which i thought was interesting, and makes me curious to rewatch those episodes. (Though i already have suspicions based on my knowledge of my brother and my recollections of the episodes in question.)

While in Maryland i caught a couple episodes of Are You Being Served?, which i hadn’t seen since i was about ten. Emma was so right about John Inman though i so didn’t see it as a child, and i do still so enjoy the show. I also saw my first ever episode of Waiting for God. Heart Diana (to no one’s surprise).

I was reading some old Playboys, and one of them had a vote for the Playmate of the Year thing, so they had pictures of all 12 or whatever on one page, all in about the same pose, and i was struck by how nearly identical they looked (the boobs being the really eerie part). The following pages with larger pictures showed that they weren’t all Caucasian, but they were close. It made me wanna write porn -- the erotic chemistry, not so much the explicit sex -- ‘cause Playboy is just so unerotic.

One issue had an article on sex in movies. mmmdirtybadwrong. Highlights: the threesome scene in Wild Things was recommended, i learned that there’s an unrated version of Eurotrip with excessive nudity, and Murderous Maids made me think of certain friends of mine.

I read an interview with Dustin Hoffman in which he says he and Jon Voight in Midnight Cowboys played their characters’ relationship gay. (I really should watch that movie, huh?) Ditto Hook and Smee in Hook.

Yay! Those books are so wonderful. I hope you like them - especially Archangel. I'm not quite as overly-enthusiastic about the other two in the trilogy.

Who exactly do you know that you think of in relation to Murderous Maids, 'cause that's slightly disturbing.

I couldn't get into Good Omens, though I liked American Gods (which I got off of an old book recommendation list of yours.)

We've been watching AYBS pretty much consistently, but all of a sudden I was like "OMG-pinky ring! ::snicker::"

I read Archangel (and the night i finished it had a weird dream about flooding :) ) and really liked it. It felt formulaic at times, but it was sort of something i noticed in passing, and simultaneously i thought, "But it's executed so well," and obviously everything's formulaic when you boil it down. And of course i had much love for the theology debating :)

I'm gonna have to read The Historian next, 'cause it's a new book so there's a waitlist and i don't wanna keep people waiting, but i definitely intend to read the rest of the Samaria books.

Murderous Maids didn't make me think of any of my friends as in "Dude, i know people like that," but more like, "Oh, that sounds reminiscent of movies like Heavenly Creatures and thus makes me think of my friends who love that movie."

You might appreciate the sections about the Four Horsepersons, and the theology bits at the end are really interesting -- free will etc. I'm glad you liked American Gods, though. (Dude, we agree on something? *boggles*)

I caught a lot of the hetero humour when i saw it as a kid (Miss Brahms, Mr. Lucas' banter with her, Mr. Grace and his aides on loan from Hugh Hefner) so when Emma first told me i figured it was just coding i hadn't caught, and there is stuff like that, but there's also really rather explicit stuff. Like when the guy wants to get a coat for his "friend" Roger (who turns out to be his pet dog), or when they have the "flexi-bra" and there's also a butt one.

December 2004 Playboy interview. (Question 19 here (http://www.playboy.com/features/features/dustinhoffman/02.html).)

I noticed no homosocial undertones when i saw Hook (at which time i was probably junior high age) but Are You Being Served? proves i was rather oblivious. I'm now quite curious to watch it again, though.

Dude, I have watched every single episode of Are You Being Served? at least four or five times. Oy.

First off, i am impressed by your commitment to catching up on LJ, since this post is from such a while back.

Second: I didn't know you were an Are You Being Served? fan. Rock. I have very few distinct memories of the episodes i watched as a kid, but when we watched two episodes in Maryland i definitely recognized them. So i have no idea how many episodes i actually saw as a kid, but i would guess a lot.
