[Epiphany 2B] joy sadhana

So, the Srs Bznz gloves I bought yesterday are really 2 sets of gloves.

Biking to church this morning, I wore just the one set of gloves -- though I brought the lobster gloves that go over them just in case.

Initially, my hands were fine though other parts of me got progressively colder. By the time I got to the Powder House Rotary? (more than 2/3 of the way through the ~10min commute) Yeah.

And trying to work the key to lock my bike with frozen hands? That was challenging.

During Coffee Hour, orgainst!Hugh offered me a ride home (he saw me biking on my way to church). I said I'm a very stubborn person, and he said he used to live in Minnesota and biked year round except when it was icy, so he understood.

I put on both sets of gloves for biking home, and wearing the lobster gloves definitely felt awkward.

My eyes didn't water at all coming home like they had going to church (Jenni, who was greeting with Harold, said it looked like I had frozen tears), but my ears were definitely cold.

I decided I was not biking to evening church. Instead I took the earlier bus, which meant less time on the Internet at home, but I could print out the Council agenda in the upstairs office and have plenty of time to set up the worship space.

I was LJ commenting, so I got to the bus stop right around 3:27 (when the bus is scheduled to be at that stop) and I thought maybe I'd missed the bus -- but there was a woman waiting, so I figured not. I know the Sunday afternoon #96 is often late, so I gave myself until 3:40 before I'd just start walking to Davis to get the shuttle (and then backtrack across Harvard Yard ... yeah, this was not my favorite plan). After I boarded the bus I looked at its ticker and it said 3:36pm.

The people that walked in darkness have seen a great light. And they that dwell in the land of the shadow of death, upon them hath the light shined. (Isaiah 9:2, Handel's Messiah)

Good things about today:
  • Sam [housemate's cat] didn't wake me up this morning.
  • morning church
    • During Passing of the Peace, Jeff M. said something like, "It just wouldn't be right if I didn't get a hug from you."
    • In the receiving line, Jeff M., said, "Thank you for being you, Elizabeth [surname]. I think you're great."
me: "You're welcome, Jeff [surname]. Thank you."
    • And the woman whose name escapes me Maria came up to me during Coffee Hour for her hug before she left because I'm "the best hugger on the planet."
  • Scott called ~8:30 tonight, when we were finishing cleaning up at CWM. It was basically his patch of downtime between sleeping ~16hrs/day (and working a little -- apparently he's been sick), so I talked to him through the remainder of cleaning up and the ride home (Julia had been looking exhausted all evening, so letting her go home rather than our usual debriefing was probably for the best -- and I did ask her if she wanted to debrief, though I anchored with "you look like you just wanna go home"). Phonecall is probably our least effective mode of communication, but I was glad to hear from him.
Things I did well [since last joy sadhana]:
  • Last night: reset and turned on my alarm; turned down the heat before going to bed.
  • Bought milk. (And walked the whole way home carrying the gallon of milk in my non-dominant hand.)
  • Finished putting together a Council agenda (before I left for evening church), printed it out in the H-E office, and did a bunch of CWM setup before anyone else arrived.
  • Pr. Lisa claims I ran an effective Council meeting. I don't feel like it was very effective, but Julia pointed out that it's all relative; and I conceded to Scott that we did get through basically everything on my agenda, which he pointed out sounded like an effective meeting.
Things I am looking forward to (doing [better]) tomorrow:
["anything that you're looking forward to, that means you're facing tomorrow with joy, not trepidation," as Ari says]
  • sleeping in
  • I am forcing myself to go clothes shopping because I hate all my work pants and this is an increasingly untenable situation -- so yeah, this is really not "a thing I am looking forward to" so much as my attempting to use commitment mechanisms.
  • Sacred Eros: "Jesus and Sex" (even though I remain nigh wholly unprepared)
