My roses are kinda black now that they've dried out significantly.  FUH was in briefly today and said he liked them, that they're "kind of dark and evil."  FTW!

I heard about Frank Miller's film adaptation of Will Eisner's The Spirit via friendsfriends.

Master List for Stacey round at [livejournal.com profile] short_takes (BSC fic)
I have sadface that I missed signups for that, though it's probably for the best.  (Hi, the last fic I manged to finish was Secret Slasha.)

Two more bags of paper going to the curb.

My mom emailed me:
You know, it sounds to me, from the "bag o' paper" count, that you have taken a significant bite out of your collection of useless paper (oops, I meant Potentially Very Important Documents).
Hey, in the bottom of the last box I went through, I found my bartending book and my massage class books!  I knew I couldn't have actually lost them.

Oh god, Boston Zine Fair (September 20-21).  I should not go and yet you know I will.

The gash on my finger is healing, though it still looks kind of grotesque -- like the skin really isn't pushed together.  Should I have gone to the hospital and gotten stitches?  Should I go to the hospital anyway?

For what it's worth, I had what sounds like a similar gash. It took about two weeks to smooth out, and about 5 days in I was freaking out because the extra skin looked like a dead worm on my wound. I was really upset and stressed that it would not heal smoothly. I was crying to a triage nurse about how worried I was about having frankenstein hand. And it healed just fine. Right now, at 16 days from injury, it's just shiny and red, but it's smooth.

It's too late for stitches at this point. If it doesn't heal smoothly, there's always plastic surgery, but it probably won't come to that.

How deep was it? Are your flexor tendons okay? I had to have one of those repaired months after an injury (when I was 9).

ETA: Are you exposing it to air and light? Mine was pretty gross while I was over-using band-aids. When I started letting it dry out it helped a lot. I also used Neosporin for the first few days.

Normally I am all about leaving wounds exposed to heal, but because this is such an open wound that it seems like a bad idea.

I don't usually bother with Neosporin but I was considering buying some when I first cut myself, but at that time I was more concerned about keeping the bleeding in check so taking off the bandaid to put on a new one with Neosporin seemed like a bad idea.

It's not a super-deep cut. There's some numbness around it, so I guess I severed some nerves, but I can use and even bend my finger without pain, so I don't think I damaged any muscles or tendons.

I am not a qualified medical professional, but that looks somewhat like mine, and leaving the band-aid off for a day helped immeasurably. (Obviously, only when I was doing clean, dry activities - I put a band-aid and a rubber glove on when I made some jam.) The jagged edges got all disgustingly dry and eventually flaked off

If it makes you feel better, maybe stop by the campus quick clinic and have the triage nurse look at it? That's the person who told me I'd be fine if I stopped keeping it so wet and squeezing it with a band-aid. And he was right, in my case.

Since you seem to like collecting paper, have you ever thought of being a Zine Librarian/Curator? Swear to God they exist; in fact, I think Duke has one...

Wow -- that doesn't look as bad as what I did once (or what I pictured) -- literally sliced a chunk off my finger. Which reattached rather inelegantly. I'm guessing it'll scar, and guessing you won't care. Just watch for infection.
