hermionesviolin: (ball failure)
Yeah, getting the results+commentary from Teh Internet the next day.

Of the 5 Best Picture nominations (listed below) I've only seen 2 (asterisked) and wasn't taken with either of them.

BEST PICTURE
* BROKEBACK MOUNTAIN
CAPOTE
* CRASH
GOOD NIGHT, AND GOOD LUCK.
MUNICH

Highlights from the flist:

[Reminder: See the Subject of this post?  Read linked pieces at your own risk.]

[livejournal.com profile] the_red_shoes is smart.

[livejournal.com profile] hedy reiterates her problems with lauding Brokeback Mountain as a gay movie.  (In the comments, [livejournal.com profile] lilithchilde counters: "I think it was a movie about the tragedy of the closet, personally. And while I understand the reservation about showing the negative side of gay life and history . . . it's real, and it's poignant")

I agree with [livejournal.com profile] sineala on Documentary.

[livejournal.com profile] sexonastick is snarky about Brokeback Mountain etcetera.

And hopping over to InstaPundit gets me a couple links -- the first of which reminds me that [livejournal.com profile] marauderthesn has complaints about Clooney's speech (scroll past a lot of other complaints for that one) and the second of which reminds me that [livejournal.com profile] whedonesque is having a Who Got Snubbed? A Shout-outathon thread which was helpful to me in reminding me which other movies came out last year.

I'm still working on coming up with an articulate response to the "out of touch" speech.

Yeah, that was definitely more enjoyable than watching the Oscars would have been.  Will read the flist's writeups (plus the rest of the flist and my e-mail) tomorrow.  Will do my CSI writeups . . . maybe tomorrow; depends on how busy work is.

Yeah, am definitely okay with missing Grace Episcopal's Narnia Day 1 to meet with Pastor Hamilton.  From the most recent Norwood Bulletin:
Grace Episcopal Church to hold series on C.S. Lewis book and Lent
    As part of its observance of the season of Lent, Grace Episcopal Church will host an intergenerational program called "Aslan is on the Move," based on C.S. Lewis' book, "The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe," five Tuesdays in Lent: March 7, 14, 21 and 28, and April 4, from 6 to 8 p.m.  Using games, activities, and discussions, the program will explore some of the themes of Christianity through Lewis's story about four young siblings who walk through an old wardrobe to find a magical world called Narnia.  Participants can meet the characters of Tumnus, Mr. and Mrs. Beaver and Aslan.  In each session, a segment of an animated film will be show so everyone will know the story.  A light dinner will be served.

It was Daffodil Sunday, so we sang Sydney Carter's "All Shall Be Well" which made me think of [livejournal.com profile] sk8eeyore. Brunch was hash browns and banana yogurt w/ banana slices and cantaloupe-heavy fruit salad. Yum. (Dinner was less exciting, but omggarlicbread.)

I flaked on Mollie Rogers-ing after all, but i was productive. I reread King Lear, opted not to do a reader response, started on my paper (due Friday!). I will in fact have a site update on Tuesday. I sent assorted overdue feedback last night and today. (And got sidetracked on author websites reading fic i hadn't read before.)

Unforeseen: a new Buffy/Tara archive by [livejournal.com profile] faithtastic (since as far as i know, there hadn't existed one previously)

I watched part of the Oscars (went downstairs for food) and was tempted to stay for the performances, but really i can't sit through the Oscars.

Robin Williams: "They tell me Spongebob is gay. Square pants? Not gay. Tight pants? Maybe. No pants? You go girl."

I actually wandered down for the end, so since i was one of the few left at the end i got an Oscar-ette. (Mine has chunky heeled boots!) Cat won Oscar. so she can appreciate his maleness all year long ;)

All the garbage people consume, and Kate loses respect for me because i enjoy MAD TV?
