The continuing birthday celebration. (Would you believe this is the abbreviated version?)

On my way to get my hair cut Saturday morning, someone asked me for directions to Davis Square. I gave them and said I was going that way myself, so we walked part way together.  He said he was looking for housing, was moving here to be a student.  I asked if he was going to Tufts, and almost sheepishly he said he was going to seminary, at Harvard.  I immediately responded that that was awesome and that I had a number of friends going to div school and was jealous of them that they got to spend all their time studying theology.  His name is Kieran.  I approve of him.

As I said, I went to Salon Femia and got my hair cut.  I think I like it.

I ended up having enough time to do laundry, have lunch, and pack with time to spare.  Nice.

On the train to South Station I started reading Breakfast at Tiffany's and wow, from the very beginning it's so much darker than the movie.  It also makes me really wanna rewatch the movie to compare.  (Not that I have the time to finish reading the novella, nevermind rewatch the movie.)

I stopped at Master Wok at South Station to get a drink.  I almost got an almond milk tea but decided instead to get a banana milk juice.  I'd never actually had boba before, and yeah, never again.  I don't really like the taste, and I'm also not a fan of chewy bits in my drinks.

NYC: cut-tagging because people complain sometimes ;)  )

We seem to be back to having 2 trash barrels.  I approve.

P.S. Mark, the Shakespeare movie Keanu was in was the one I was thinking of.  It's called Much Ado About Nothing.

"you've gotta live light enough to see the humor, and long enough to see some change"

Wednesday was the Vernal Equinox.

When we walked to the T after work that day, Katie said she had thought about trying to stand an egg on its end the previous night.  She is for the win.

Thursday was Return to the Comedy Dentist (TM Gillian).

Apparently he is fourteen, 'cause over the course of my visit he called me: "Sweenster1, girlfriend2, and pally-pal."
1 My last name is "Sweeny."
2 In that teenspeak way, nothing sketchy.

[This was particularly entertaining since the endodontist unfailingly called me, "Miss Sweeny."  Edit: Oh, I forgot to mention that he said she'd been in touch with him throughout the process, and was apparently very impressed by my maturity throughout and my willingness to continue to go through with it.  My immediate reaction to this was to feel like, "Well once we started I was kind of committed," but then I remembered how tempted I'd felt to just not go back for the second two-hour appointment, so yeah, good on me. /edit]

He was giving me a general explanation of what the procedure would entail and at one point I said, "So I should just lie back and think of England?"
He didn't know what I was talking about (nor did his assistant, Eric B.).
"You know, Queen Victoria...." [Huh, wikipedia tells me it's generally credited to: "Alice, wife of the 2nd Baron Hillingdon."]
Yeah, they still weren't getting it and I was like, "You really don't want me to have to explain it to you."

After a minute the dentist said, "Oh, I think I know what you mean."
To which I replied, "You see why I didn't want to have to explain it to you."
"You're twisted," he said, in an almost-approving tone.

Hi, I am for the win.

At one point he noticed the gouge on the back of my hand.  "I dropped something on my hand," I said.
"An iron?"
This was in fact correct, and he was terribly pleased with himself.
"Yes, when I write home about my dentist I'll be sure to mention that he correctly identified the item I dropped on my hand."

"I'm like Grissom from CSI," he said after I finished with the receptionist.
"Complete with social awkwardness?" I responded without missing a beat.  "The obsessive tendencies reminiscent of a serial killer?" I added as he walked away.

Rounding out the week of going for broke, today I: registered for Reunion, made an appointment to get my hair cut, and picked up my new glasses.

At work this morning, I forgot how we got to it, but MaryAlice mentioned Lawrence Welk (which name totally made me think of the line "a whelk's chance in a supernova" from one of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy books -- "Life, the Universe and Everything," the Internet tells me) and other stuff from before our time, and Katie mentioned Bob Ross and Ranjan was doing an imitation and neither MaryAlice nor I knew of this guy, so of course I sat down at my computer (we were all congregated around my cube anyway) and wikipedia-ed.  Then Ranjan suggested YouTube, which search was also successful.

Due to the nice weather, MaryAlice insisted it would be a "crime" to not go to the Square for lunch today.  Eric's stipulation was that we stop at the slush place on the way back :)  I got kiwi, which was yummy; MaryAlice blissed out on peach, and I had a sip and indeed it was yum.

On my way home today I passed a yard that had crocuses blooming.  And there is snow predicted for Saturday night/Sunday morning.  ♥

So yeah.  I went out to Worcester to attend Jonah's 21st birthday dinner.  It was at Dalat, a Vietnamese restaurant.  I much prefer Pho/Li's, personally.  They had boba slushes, though.  (I thought of Eric.)  I ordered a coconut one, but they were out, so I got watermelon instead.  It was yummy.  Jonah ordered an avocado one, which I didn't think tasted like much of anything.

He turned 21 on Tuesday and had yet to buy his first legal drink, so afterward we went to a bar so I could buy him a drink.  We tried the Blarney Stone first, but the music was So Loud.  Next we went to Foo Bar, which wasn't as bad.  He got a Cosmo and I got a screwdriver.  They came in plastic cups.  I think that was a first for me.

After we got back to his room, Jonah showed me the pilot episode of Weeds: "You Can't Miss the Bear."  I enjoyed it.  a couple quibbles )

In other news:

People left me comments of hugs on my last root canal post.  I honestly was totally not expecting that.  Thanks, y'all.  (My mom also sent me a sweet e-mail.)

Emma called me today!  Yay for joy.  And yeah, I so fail at "So what's been going on in your life?"  (Er, fail at answering the question off the top of my head, I mean.)

"Ooh I want you I don't know if I need you"

Yesterday I was so ready to fall over and sleep around 4pm. I went to sleep within a half an hour of arriving home and slept for ~11 hours. (Woke up assorted times, but didn't get up until about near sunrise.)

This morning I chatted with Greg (whom I don't think I talked to at all yesterday) and had Bigelow Orange&Spice Herbal Tea which I dumped ice in after it steeped. (An hour later, after I'd drunk most of it, I managed to spill it on my keyboard/lap. ::sigh::)

I e-mailed Emma back. (Smith people are love.)

Yesterday I mentioned that Sunday's my birthday, so Mary Alice said they should take me out for lunch. So that's what we did today. (The Vietnamese place, natch.) And then hit the slush place after. I'm not convinced that strawberry-kiwi tastes like either strawberry or kiwi, but Eric's probably right that it's just really well blended. Alyssa got the Rose Water. It's pink like strawberry ice cream and smells like roses and is very light. I'm impressed.

Eric called me yesterday about how to reserve rooms and then called this morning needing Security's number (he's downstairs Thursdays and Fridays for the duration of the summer, so he doesn't have all his usual stuff with him). So when he called again I answered with, "Whadda you want this time?" His answer: "I want you to come to lunch, smart alec." I felt appropriately chastened.

Also, who knew Eric was into photography? The boy has layers. /snark

Edit: Oh, and when we were coming back, Michelle passed us going the other way and stuck her tongue out at me in that mock-angry way she has. I felt loved. :) /edit

[livejournal.com profile] writercon swag-a-thon. I have until 9am tomorrow to decide if I want "Beta the badfic slayer" merch. If nothing else I feel like I should get a mousepad. (I don't wear logo-ed clothes much and just got a new messenger bag.) I'm also tempted by tomorrow's "Fanfic Writer: No Apologies" despite being fairly tacitly/passively closeted about my fanficcing (much as I am about my queerness, when it comes down to it).

And of course: Happy Birthday [livejournal.com profile] antheia.

lunch, and housewarming party

RA brought me banana nut coffee cake and strawberries from the ExecEd program.

Eric and I had lunch outside -- at the Square 'cause he's addicted to Boston Tea Stop slush (honeydew, especially). At his urging, I ordered one, too. Coconut this time. (Sidenote: Would I like passion fruit, or lychee? Ooh, the online menu says you can combine. Maybe I'll order a strawberry kiwi next time.)

Eric's suggestions for when to have my housewarming party included the last weekend in August and Fourth of July weekend. I suspect both these are bad ideas, but they do remind me that I should do a survey of when is _not_ good for people. I'm probably going to have the party on q Saturday (plan is afternoon seguing into dinner party seguing into sleepover) but I'm open to petitions for Fridays or Sundays. I'm rooting for mid-late July but am open to petitions for August. I thought about doing an all-out poll, but there are so many dates left in the summer that instead I invite you to comment with your preferences -- especially since that also gives you a forum in which to tell me how likely/interested you are in attending.

Oh, and I had mentioned to my mom doing monthly dinner parties after this 'cause (1) seeing people = yay (2) I'm disinclined to make real food when I'm just making it for myself (3) I'm gonna have so much booze left over after my party.
