My brother and i started watching Monty Python’s Flying Circus. Clearly i have been spoiled by the Monty Python and the Holy Grail movie, which is consistently very funny. The series thus far (episodes 4-6 of Season 1, episodes 23-24 of Season 2) has been unimpressive.

However, Gavin Millarrrrrrrrrr’s commentary on Shunt's Utopia (the murder play with the train schedules from 2.24 -- scroll here or view in plain text here) was surrealist in a way that reminded me of the Questions game from Rosencrantz & Guildenstern are Dead (not that i am claiming it to be even near as brilliant) and made me want to memorize it just to be able to reel it off at random moments.

We tuned in around 9pm. Eddie Guerrero was talking about some secret from his and Rey Mysterio’s past. Now, they had a big ole fallout a while back, and the text is that they were best buds, but i kept feeling like they were lovers who had broken up. So then tonight “Uncle Eddie” is hanging out with Rey’s son Dominic and i’m like “Uncle? Is your dirty scary secret that you and Rey had an incestuous relationship as children?” I think the “uncle” relationship is figurative, though, and i know WWE wouldn’t do incest. They gave Undertaker a half-brother a childhood full of violence, abuse, and death; and we’ve had assorted storylines with guys creeping after other guys’ wives; but there are some stories you just can’t tell on broadcast TV. So now i’m trying to figure out what this big secret Rey doesn’t want Eddie to tell is. Did they kill someone? It can’t be too illegal because unless they’re planning on removing these guys from active duty the story has to be something that wouldn’t get them sent to jail if it were actually true.

Next we had a 6-man elimination match for the new Smackdown championship. I rather thought they had more than enough title belts as it is (cruiserweight, etc.).

One of the men was Muhammad Hassan, whom i had never heard of before the advertisement. He wore headdress etc. and i immediately recalled characters from when i watched in the ‘80s. I’m not entirely sure how they play him, though. His entrance video is the inverse of the attitude of his 1980s counterparts. And we’ve got the JBL character, which makes the metaphor dynamic particularly interesting. See also any previous time i have discussed representation of politics in WWE.

As soon as the GM said the 6th man was gonna be the newest Smackdown draft pick, i called that it would be the newbie would who would win. (Christian was so much cooler when he was of Edge&Christian, though.) The match went on for ages, and we hadn’t seen Christian in a while, and it was JBL and Booker T left in the ring, and JBL had this look on his face like, “I am so gonna win this” and i thought Christian would win by virtue of the others forgetting he was there, that JBL would eliminate Booker T and stand up in glory and Christian would pounce in and eliminate him before he had time to react. We returned from the commercial break with a view of the JBL-BT fight, but with a view of Christian outside the ropes in the middle of the frame. He soon tagged in and participated in the action. At this point i should have started reevaluating my narrative, but i didn’t. (Earlier i had noticed that since the amount of abuse they endure is far beyond the realm of reality, you can’t treat it like a real wrestling match in terms of guessing when a pin is gonna be successful or whatever, instead you have to try to figure out what the narrative is.)

Christian made the stupendously stupid move to tag in -- by tagging out Booker T -- when JBL was clobbering Booker T. After much back-and-forthing, JBL won the day. He was more ecstatic than i think i have ever seen a WWE wrestler. Hugging the ref like whoa, etc. And then the GM comes out and says they don’t need a Smackdown championship, and JBL has just won himself number one contendorship against the final Smackdown draft pick: World Heavyweight Champion Batista, who recently defeated HHH in a Hell in a Cell. And this all feels very much like a typical WWE narrative.

Of interest to at least a couple people i know is the following from Joss Whedon over on Browncoats:
Here's an odd little story:

Summer did read for Kitty in X3. I know because she called me and mentioned she was going to and did I know anything about the character (there were no 'sides' to study -- they had to get them when they came in). So the girl I turned into sort of a superhero in my movie was going to read for the character that most influenced ALL my girl-heroes, Kitty Pryde. Karmically funky. Anyhoo, she called me after and said it was very emotional and kind of like when she read for FIREFLY, she just got into a very intense groove. She started telling me about the scene she read and that's when I realized WHY it was kind of like she read for FIREFLY. 'Cause (as you may know) it was a scene I wrote for Astonishing X-Men issue #5. I assume they just didn't have sides ready and used that but this was like a karmic moebius strip, it was just too folded in on itself. In this time of odd, I turned to beer. (No I didn't. Stay in school.)

I don't know what the X-peeps are looking for -- or even if that other girl has really dropped out -- but for my money, Summer would make a wonderful Kitty. (And I don't say that lightly.) As long as it doesn't interfere with SERENITY II: RICARDO MONTALBAN'S STILL PISSED -- or, much more importantly, SERENITY III: SO VERY NUDE.

I have job interviews in the offing. This pleases me. I have an eye exam appointment next Wednesday. I should probably schedule a physical while i still have health insurance, huh?

I met Emma at the Museum of Science today for an all-too-brief visit. We had lunch at Halftime Pizza right across from the North Station commuter rail station, and i was actually pleased with the food.

(Note to MBTA users: The Lechmere Green Line currently stops at North Station. Thus to access the Museum of Science you can get off at Government Center and transfer to a bus, or you can get off at North Station and walk.)

There’s a new sign on the FormerlyFleetCenter. From tdbanknorthgarden.com, says “Go ahead, call it the Garden again.” This made me happy.

Doing research for a fic (i swear) i learned that if you search the MLN catalog for keyword “cunnilingus,” the only thing you get is This thing of ours: investigating The Sopranos edited by David Lavery (because it contains the essay " ‘Cunnilingus and psychiatry have brought us to this’: Livia and the logic of false hoods in the first season of The sopranos" by Joseph S. Walker) and if you try a Subject search, you learn that: “Cunnilingus is not used in this library's catalog. Oral sex is used instead. Search for Oral sex.” Clicking on the provided search link leads you to one title.

[Poll #524047]

I’m amused that i’m more interested in rereading the first 5 HP books to read fic rather than in anticipation of Book6.

I need a friendship icon.

Oh and because i can, links to icon batches i am not using but like and found in my trawl through my saved icons.

Am also debating switching one of my [Poll #524049]

Dood, you even had to ask about the House?

Hey, i tend to suck at figuring out which house people [myself included] would fit (which reminds me of this post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/resonant8/93450.html) i was reading recently) and i've seen people post the poll thinking the answer was obvious and then find themselves surprised by the results of what their friends thought.

I was tempted to say Hufflepuff for you, but then reality re-asserted itself. :)

:) I haven't answered even one of these polls yet for anyone because i suck at thinking of which House would fit people (see also this post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/resonant8/93450.html)) and when i posted i actually wasn't sure if i would have put myself in Hufflepuff or Ravenclaw, though thinking about it Ravenclaw makes more sense.

Hmmm. I don't know if I think Summer's right for Kitty. Then again, if I'm right about who the competition is, she's much better. And I love seeing the Firefly cast in anything.

I also love Joss' Kitty-thing. It's kind of nifty that we share a favorite (she's right there after Rachel; and of course, I 'ship them madly). He writes her so well. Dammit, the next issue of Astonishing needs to come out.

I like that we are thus far unanimous about your Hogwarts house. (I would totally be in Gryffindor, but maybe I should try the poll and see what others think.)

Yup. You broke the pattern of alternating results for my friendship icon, though :)

I haven't answered even one of these polls yet for anyone because i suck at thinking of which House would fit people (see also this post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/resonant8/93450.html)) and when i posted i actually wasn't sure which of two houses i would have put myself in, though i think the one my flist has picked makes more sense.

So far your Sorting is more unanimous than mine. *le sigh* I was tempted by Slytherin for you, then realized snarky != ambitious, so Ravenclaw it is.

I haven't answered even one of these polls yet for anyone because i suck at thinking of which House would fit people and wasn't sure where i would put myself (see also this post (http://www.livejournal.com/users/resonant8/93450.html)). I'm finding really interesting both the unanimity of results for me and also people's comments (who thought it was obvious, who was torn and why).
