You know, last time i got my hair cut i felt boyish too.

I had wanted the front to be short, tapering to the back, but i misunderstood a question and ended up with the front longer than the back -- essentially the reverse of what i had wanted. This has been bothering me and i was considering having Ria fix it (also tempted to just hack it myself, as i was when i was feeling really sick of my shoulder-length hair), but i just realized that i can tuck it behind my ears and it looks super-cute. This also makes me feel better about the fact that because my hair doesn't have all that much body, the cut in general looks not quite as good as i had envisioned. As i was getting distressed about the haircut i was getting anxious about tomorrow's highlights, but feeling better about the cut has made me feel better about the whole thing. Part of it is definitely that i've never colored my hair before. It grows out, i know (and i want photos taken, because it will be 2 months grown out before i see my Norwood people, not to mention my long-distance people who never see me) and they're professionals and i want this and yeah... shutting up now. Will report back tomorrow.

I like that our kitchen staff knows us and talks to us in Chase. This was the other happy thing i forgot to mention today. That and the fact that i played a round of 9-ball for the first time and heart it muchly (this is because i did well, which was likely just luck) and i really like Leah in my pool class. Also, i'm definitely still working on basic skills, and i really appreciate in general how good people are about that, being helpful and laid-back and just so very good.

I am making myself finish my thank you notes tonight, because this morning i said i would.

Next new Angel (5.09, "Harm's Way") is next Wednesday.

Oh, and have been playing with icon-making in Photoshop. What's that font that everyone uses in solid legible capital letter writing on fonts? And how do you tweak an animated icon to make it fit LJ's 40k limit?

If you're using Photoshop itself to animate .gifs (rather than making each frame in Photoshop and exporting to another .gif animator), you really don't have to worry too much about the upper limit. When I was making the above icon, I had it at sixteen frames, and it came out at around 36K. I decided I didn't like the timing and doubled some of the frames; expanding the animation to 20 frames only brought the memory usage up to 37.1K. In other words, Photoshop compresses real good. If you select File-->Save For Web (which is what you have to do to animate your .gif anyway), you'll be able to play with settings like the "Color Reduction Algorithm" and the "Dither Algorithm" -- whatever they may be -- and Photoshop will show you both the effect on the presentation of your icon and the effect the change will have on your final file size.

Ah, thank you. I had been using Microsoft Gif Animator because it was easy, but it seems to make the gifs really big (size-wise). I have PhotoShop (which i use to make the frames) and it comes with ImageReady, but i can't figure out how to add a second frame in (all i've managed to do is duplicate my original frame).

What I do is make each frame in a separate Photoshop document, then create a new document for the animation. Each frame of the animation has to be on its own layer in this new document, so I pull down "Layer," hit the menu for "New," and select "Layer." Then I paste in the image for that frame.

Hmm. Okay, i made all the frames in Photoshop, but when i do Layer-->New-->Layer, i don't know where that new frame is so that i can paste something in to it.

Over on the right hand side should be a series of tabs which you can pull down to reveal pallettes: "How to," "Filters," etc. Pull down the one marked "Layers." This will show you what layers exist in your document. The one that is shaded and marked with a paintbrush is the active layer. In the pallette, click on the new (empty) layer to make it active. Paste your new frame in there.

Okay, got that figured out. So i have 2 frames, each with a different image. It doesn't seem to think it's an animated thing, though, because the Play button is grayed out.

I use LipoD as well, to add to the list of potential bitmap fonts.

Hope the highlights go well! I love getting haircuts, but I haven't found a place here I like yet. So I'm being lazy and waiting to go home and make my mom take me.

I could probably reccomend a few volumizing products (should you be interested) to give your hair a little bit more bounce. Also, you don't need to and probably shouldn't use conditioner - it'll just weigh your hair down.

And that's your unsolicited beauty tip of the day... *slinks off*

*laughs* I don't do hair product (don't do beauty fuss at all if i can help it) but i appreciate the offer for recommendations. And thanks for the heads-up that despite my hair being bleached, i don't need conditioner; i would have thought otherwise.

I thought so too, and would use it on occasion. However, Adrianna (my fantastic stylist-to-the-stars) insists that all it succeeds in doing is weighing hair down. If your hair is so dry it's breaking, then use a dime-sized drop only on the ends. But usually, especially with fine hair, you really don't need any at all. Especially if it's short.

She told me to try it for a week and see what I thought of the results. I was impressed, so that was it for me & conditioner.

I'm always astounded by how much I know about this stuff. I always think I don't know all that much.

I, on the other hand, think of you as the person to go with such questions :)
