How does my wallet get stolen from my desk when someone's sitting in the cube behind me?  I know I should be more careful (I leave my messenger bag sitting next to my desk at the entryway to my cubicle), especially since Katie's wallet went missing a few weeks ago and she suspects it got stolen here (she couldn't remember when last she had it, so it was possible she left it at a restaurant or something).  Sigh.

I registered for my extension school classes this morning and used my debit card for that.  I went to lunch (had my HUID and my CharlieCard in my pocket, as per usual, along with my cell phone).  I came back, read about Palin and watched some speeches on YouTube.  B emailed to say I should go go home early (he had originally said he was gonna send me something to take care of and then I could leave after that, but he wasn't yet finished and said he'd take care of it and I should just go home).  I went to get out my debit card to do a couple other things before I left and hi, no wallet.

I called BoA to cancel my debit and credit cards.  The last charge on my credit card was an ExxonMobil in Allston at 11:55am Central.  Yeah, not so much.

MaryAlice's wallet got stolen while we were at lunch, too -- and hers is in a drawer.

She call HBS Security right quick (which didn't even occur to me to do) and they called HUPD and we got to file police reports and they're gonna see if there's video surveillance at that Exxon.

I got to call and cancel all my store cards, too (Gap, Ann Taylor, TJX -- oh, and I forgot about Sears).

They didn't take my digital camera, my passport (yay, I have ID so I can go to the bank tomorrow and get cash and a temporary card!), my housekeys, my earbuds, or the book I'm reading.

Later I was mentally going through what else was in my wallet -- my 2 old Smith IDs, my C/W MARS library card, my Minuteman library card! :(  I broke my library card years ago but refused to get a new one 'cause I had the number memorized, and I was working Circulation at the time so I would just key in my number; I feel bad now that I have to hand the card to someone else and it takes two or three tries for the scanner to take it, but I still refused to get a replacement; guess I have to now.  Oh, my MFA membership cards!

I also have to call and get new copies of my insurance cards.

As we walked to the T, Katie mentioned that when her wallet got stolen, she still had $11 left on a gift certificate, and I remembered that yeah, I have not only a bunch of rewards cards but also gift cards with value on them (I think I hadn't even begun to use the $50 Target gift card I got from my mom).

Plus there's like eighty dollars in cash (I just went to the bank a couple days ago).  Sigh.  I'm not really fussed about the monetary loss, more annoyed with all the hassle involved in getting everything canceled.  I also really don't like the feeling of not feeling okay about where I work.  I love where I work.

It sucks to have your wallet stolen. Esp. as you say, at work.
Tho your space is pretty open. Still.
My wallet was stolen once on the T and I just felt so violated.
Cheryl's wallet was stolen years and years ago with phtos and stuff and it made me carry the minimum in my wallet just in case.
Nice they didn't take anything else! Esp the passport.

Hugs to you.

Yeah. MaryAlice's wallet was in one of her desk drawers, which makes it way more creepy and violating.

Outside of the political, I'm sorry to hear that. That's crap.

someone literally went into your bag & stole your wallet? that's horrible.

do you guys have keys for your desks? i know it kinda sucks, esp. when you just step away to run to the ladies' or the caf, but it's definitely worth it.

Yeah, the drawers do lock. It's always seemed like more trouble than it's worth, but apparently that's what I'll be doing from now on.
