Well... here we are.... )

When we went to get lunch, there was agreement that we were a bit sad to be watching the final episode. Eric's the only one who's seen all of them with me, though, so clearly I'll be lending them out. I gave it to Rich first; he's gonna watch it with his kids.

And clearly Eric now needs to see the movie. I finally printed out a new cover for my Serenity DVD. Eric already owns the DVD, though (of course).

This morning Rich actually asked me which episode we were watching today :)

For (I think) the first time I did NOT get teary at the voiceover.

All of us FAs (except Laura) actually had lunch together today -- which almost never happens. Mary Alice joked we should have had the Unit FA meeting today :)

As I said, this episode is probably my least favorite/IMO-the-weakest-of-the-series. I had forgotten about the awesome opening, though Read more... )

After we watched "Ariel" yesterday, Eric looked at the DVD cover and commented about "Trash." I didn't recall that being next (it's not) so when I took it back I looked myself and commented about how I have such mixed feelings about "War Stories" (the one that was next).

I was thinking later that day how this is less and less true. The torture scenes bother me less after repeated viewings, allowing me to focus on the awesomeness of the character stuff. Plus there are assorted scenes that are made of awesomeRead more... )

Well that'll be an interesting day. )

When I came back to my desk after lunch, Rich walked by and said, "You still watching that DVD series?" [He was with us for like part of one episode] I said yes, and he said it looked interesting. So I said I'd lend it to him after we were done.

I told Eric he would enjoy this episode, despite not liking Jayne. Having read the DVD cover blurb yesterday, he agreed.

And Mary Alice got to see Jayne with his shirt off :)

I forgot just HOW MUCH sexual innuendo gets crammed into a single episode. And it was aired on network tv :) I thought about forcing a viewing of the deleted scene, but that's on another disc, so we'll just wait until we've finished the series.

Mary Alice finally remembered where she recognized Adam Baldwin from -- Independence Day.

We watched this episode and Eric talked very little and was genuinely into what was happening. I was pleased. (And also excited that he did NOT guess the main plot twist, as in earlier episodes he had a habit of guessing almost all of the plot twists.) He also said he loves the girl mechanic (Kaylee) -- might even have said she's his favorite. He's still not a fan of Mal or Jayne, though.

Jayne's kissing line got the reactions I expected: an ew from Eric (I also totally watched his face during Saffron's Bible speech, which was awesome) and an approving mmm from Mary Alice (though she was thinking neck while Eric and I were totally thinking... other orifice).

I was also entertained that very early on Mary Alice commented that she's very pretty, because I never particularly thought that. I mean, I can see it, but I have to actually be making an effort.)

Oh, and bestest thing I forgot to mention: Eric said he was going to watch Firefly last night but it felt like it would be cheating on us, so he didn't.

Lakshmi said it was beautiful out, but Eric had so many containers of food (he's been stockpiling leftovers -- 'cause he keeps forgetting that he's put them in our fridge) that we stayed inside. Which meant more Firefly.

He said of his own volition that Kaylee was pretty. He keeps saying that Jayne's a necessary evil, but he's stopped talking about how Kaylee doesn't belong there.

I largely noticed how many really pretty shots there are of Mal in this episode. And a few of Zoe, as well (noticed she's wearing a sleeveless top when they're playing in the opening scene).

When they're playing uncivilized futuristic space basketball, I noticed that Kaylee's shirt totally shows off her breasts. (As does Inara's dress, but that's to be expected.)

I had a thought connecting to the movie (I think again about a necessity for fanwank) but I forgot it by the time the episode was over and again, not discussing movie in episode posts.

Oh, and I continue to find Jayne's joke on Simon funny, which is an interesting contrast to Mal's joke on Simon in "Serenity."

Edit: I forgot to mention, episode spoiler )

We watched Firefly again today during lunch. Eric commented on how it's kinda funny that he owns it but only watches it at work. His friend Debbie's coming to visit this weekend and he says she'll be so glad that he's watching it, that she's the one who tried to make him watch it a few weeks ago and he totally resisted. (Next time we watch I'm totally turning on subtitles, though, 'cause I feel like we keep missing lines, and I don't actually have the episodes entirely memorized.)

As with last time, I am hyperaware of all the ways/moments in which the episode [and probably the series] is... not necessarily even flawed, just not something someone is necessarily going to fall in love with. I don't have too many thoughts that I didn't already think back when I marathoned the show, though I did notice a few little details.
