thedeadparrot is organizing a low-key bike ride one Saturday next month. Many of our invited friends have been saying things like, "I'm not really in biking shape," and she's been reassuring them it's a gentle route and they'll go slow &c.
I can't make it the date that won the scheduling poll, so she said something like, "
serenadestrong will be my jock friend -- yes, that means you are one of the jock friends."
I was like, "How dare! Well okay, since it's about biking I suppose I can concede being the jock friend, since I'm like, 'Yeah, I bike 9 miles a day in most weather, No Big Deal.'"

I Tweeted, ".
thedeadparrot said I am a jock friend. J'accuse!"
seascribe sensibly replied, "you bike more than any non-jock is allowed."
Also, this happened:
thedeadparrot: it takes one to know one, and am i am one.
me: You just want more people to join your jock life :P
thedeadparrot: you climb with me every week, bud. you're already all the way in.

I posted a fuller version of the evening's conversation to FB, and in comments with my mom I said I think part of why I don't think of myself as a jock is because I enjoy certain physical activities but don't have a strong drive to Get Better at them.
Like, the times that I say I'm maybe becoming a jock are when I consider getting a gym membership again to work on my strength and/or cardio so I can climb better. (Not that I'm not trying to get better -- just that I'm not usually doing anything outside once a week climbing toward that goal.)
