Voice Post: locked out of the apartment
Nov. 26th, 2006 02:49 pmSo, moments after I posted, OriginalRoomie came down to get the mail. (Yes it's a Sunday; she never has Sundays off, though, so she wasn't thinking -- and I sure was glad of that.) I had rung the doorbell a couple times in case anyone was home, but as we know it's sometimes hard to hear in the back of the house if you're in a bedroom with door closed (as she was). And she said her phone was dead, so even if I had tried to call her....
So yeah, all good now. Hopefully the locksmith type guy will come soon since the doorknob does need to be properly tightened, but we have appropriate contingency plans so we can go out and feel safe that we'll be able to get back into our apartment again regardless.
Edit @ 4:18pm: Locksmith guy just called, saying he came by the property and the doorknob was back on, that he tightened the deadbolt and the doorknob and if it happens again call him and he'll replace the doorknob.
Edit: So, around 6pm I headed out and the doorknob came off in my hand. Called the locksmith guy and he's gonna replace it tomorrow.
And now I'm going to try bed again.
Oct. 11th, 2006 04:00 amI don't really understand why I'm still awake. I honestly did go to bed and try to fall asleep.
Getting back up again did mean I had a wonderful brief IM chat with Joe (especially welcome after our last conversation, where I felt like we weren't connecting like we sometimes do).
I'm fond of phone posts and thought about trying to read this poem but decided against it, going instead with a poem by one of the authors I'd used in my 2006 daily Lenten poetry. I apologize for the low volume.

Update: Shortly after I posted, OriginalRoomie knocked on my door 'cause she wanted to call the electric company and her phone was broken. They didn't have anything useful to say. She was all worried that the food I had in the fridge would go bad, whereas it hadn't occurred to me not to assume that the power would be back within twelve hours. I figured the city grid had just overloaded due to everyone blasting fans, air-conditioners, etc.
I think I fell asleep around 2:30. I woke up around 5 to the sound of a guy pounding on a door yelling "Let me in." I was actually scared, though I kept telling myself it had to be the house next door (which OriginalRoomie said it was when we talked in the morning). I woke up shortly before 7 and got up about 10 minutes later. OriginalRoomie went to use the bathroom before I took my shower -- bitching about how the "bastards" hadn't turned our electricity back on yet. Shut door, cue Whoomp! of electricity coming back on. She joked that she should buy a lottery ticket today.
So yeah, that's my story. Time to work now. Oh, and my stomach's been feeling oogie since sometime last night, which I'm not pleased about. 'Cause I know you care.

LiveJournal PhonePost is the new cool thing.
I'd been thinking i should do the one free audblog thing ever since i first heard about it, because yay for getting to hear people's voices orally [though of course some people are friendslocking their audio posts to keep the creep factor down]. I could never think of what i should say, though.
carpdeus [and Joe's new AIM profile] gave me an idea, though.
So here we are.
(Note to Smithies who plan to use this. Caller ID picks up a number other than our room numbers, so you will have to log in first with your phone number and then with your PIN.)
