My first-year roommate in college liked them a lot, so that was my introduction to them. And the album she had (This Business of Art) is still the only one of theirs I listen to with any regularity, despite owning bootlegs of some of their other albums.
The only music I got into explicitly through tv was Bif Naked thanks to BtVS "The Harsh Light of Day" (well, and Anthony Stewart Head's album) but most of the music I've gotten into in recent years is from people I know through fandom.
