I've heard high praise of Octavia Butler the past few years, but she never actually made it onto my To Read list. She finally made it on because Jonah's a big fan and my mom mentioned reading a vampire novel she'd written. "Vampire" is one of the key words to make me want to read a book, so I picked it up.
I was definitely drawn in, and liked the protagonist.
I also found the vampire mythos interesting -- and the amnesia allows the author to explain this world to us without being annoyingly Exposition Fairy.
I found myself wanting more character stuff [boo on Theodora dying, though it makes sense] as opposed to so much time with the trial, though I know we had to have the trial and that it makes sense to end the novel where it does.
Am definitely interested in reading more Butler.
