Okay, actually checking my e-mail now. My friends rock with the prompt suggestions about where to get good bras. (Going to department stores rather than stores whose sole purpose is bras is entirely counterintuitive to me, but I trust people who, yanno, actually wear bras.)

Maidenform also has an outlet at Wrentham, if that's ever a possibility.
I actually "like* VS bras, so I'm probably not a good source, but Frederick's appears to at least have a nitche market in functional but hot larger size bras (I got my Ivy day bra there).

Frederick's! Can't believe I forgot Frederick's! Wonderful store. Everyone should go there.

The nice thing about a department store is that often, you get lower sales pressure than you would at a more specific shop. You also get a wide, wide variety of styles & brand names, boutiques can be more limited.

And hey, dept. stores usually have lots of sports bras! Frankly i dislike them because you hvae to squeeze them over your head, but hey, to each her own, right? :)

Yeah, my plan was to check out Wal-Mart or something for sports bras, and I suppose I could try a real department store and do it all in one swing.

I love the ease of sports bras. None of this contorted fastening, plus you just throw them in the wash rather than having to do careful handwashing or whatever. Putting them on never felt like "squeezing" them over my head to me, and I have a big head (no jokes).

Oh, I don't handwash my bras. I throw them in a garment bag (with the hooks fastened) and into the wash they go, with either whites or colors, depending on their shade.

And if fastening isn't comfy for you, you can always investigate the front-closing bras!

Now that you mention it, I don't think my mom's get handwashed, so I should look into that garment bag thing (good to know about fastening the hooks, as I imagine I wouldn't have thought of that) if I do end up going the actual bra route.

Front-fastening bras would totally be ideal. The few times I have tried back-closing ones I do the fasten-in-front-and-then-bring-them-around, which is of course annoying.

Fasten in front and then bring them around is a lot easier than flailing your arms behind you trying to get it to hook. Just a thought. ;)

problem with front fastening bras is finding ones with *any* support whatsoever (read: my mum cut me off from buying any when I grew out of a B cup) possibly they might exist, but I haven't found them.

Bra fastening should not include contortions. (unless that's what you want to do, then- go for it!) Follow Kitty's advice, if you ever finish watching her flailing.

Yeah, I don't recall seeing front-fastening ones in big people sizes. I do them the way Cat says -- I just find sports bras way easier with the complete lack of fastening contraptions.

Have you seen me and Cat sometimes? (In person and in LJ comments.) We win at . . . something.

I find with my larger chest, front fastening bras have an annoying tendency to pop open when I bend down.

I would advise against WalMart for sports bras for a couple reasons. First, all the sports bras there work on the principle of compression, which if you have large boobs, results in the uni-boob--not an aesthetically pleasing look.

I'd suggest getting one that has an underwire and separate molded cups. I think that Nike or some other sports store is a better bet.

Besides dept. stores (which usually have a good selection -- I like Maidenform), I'm also a fan of GapBody. The T-shirt bra is quite comfy and they do carry it in larger sizes (I'm a 36-C).
