Layna wants to know from whence comes the practice of adjective!noun. I know it's a fandom thing but I have no idea from whence it originated. My guess it's an importation from computer geekness, but I really don't know. Anyone?

The problem is that in one of the computer languages (don't quote me, I think it's C++), != means 'does not equal'.

Yeah, [livejournal.com profile] starcatsinging mentioned that over in Layna's post. I think it's a logic thing. I know I've started using != as shorthand for "does not equal" thanks to [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle's using it all the time. (Dunno where she got it from. Her gf's a physicist, so that might be it.)

And my dad's a computer scientist. I'm not sure which one I got it from, but def. one of them. But given that it seems to be taken from a programming language, my dad's a more likely bet. :)

Yeah, I thought you dad was a computer scientist, but I couldn't remember, so I didn't wanna say that definitely.
