Oh, and fannish thing i forgot to mention, watching "Shindig" Jonah asked if Mal/Kaylee was popular in fandom (a frequent topic of conversation recently has been 'ship trends in various fandoms).  It was funny because i don't think i ever thought of pairing them until well after the first time i saw the series, though i've seen it a bunch recently.  *cough*[livejournal.com profile] musesfool*cough*

I've decided that Inara/Kaylee is for me like Buffy/Faith is for Allie -- a pairing that you really like but that no one seems to write the way you want them to.

The only pairing I really see in Firefly right now would be Kaylee/River. I love River, like more than all.

I adore River.

I really like the power dynamics when you put her with male characters on the show and have difficulty selling myself on her with the female characters.

Given the amount of interaction she and Kaylee have i can definitely see where you'd get a them vibe from... and i don't wanna say any more 'cause i don't wanna spoil your viewing of the rest of the series.

I definately get the Mal/Kaylee thing. I can't comment on on Inara/Kaylee fic, because I'm deliberately not reading any until I've finished watching the series. I can imagine having pretty high standards for any Kaylee fic, though.

I think Mal and Kaylee definitely have a sibling dynamic, but there's certainly potential there. And yeah, Kaylee's easy to do poorly, though i've seen fic putting her with other people where the dynamic feels believable. (And because i know Allie's gonna chime in, no the Inara/Kaylee fics she's recced aren't bad. They just don't quite hit what i'm looking for -- though spending so much time in fic i'm beginning to forget what it is that i'm looking for.)

I feel like i don't wanna say any more about dynamics between pairings, ways of writings characters, etc. because i don't wanna spoil your viewing of the rest of the series. (I obviously recommend not reading any fic until you've finished the series.)

Yay!

Out of curiosity, how far have you gotten in the series?

I'm halfway through Jaynestown. And currently listening to William Shatner's cover of 'Common People' and desiring Kirk icons with the lyrics...
