Like, it makes no sense! Yeah, SOPs are a bitch, but either they give you guidelines or you make shit up. But the bizarre paperwork... *groans*

I start back at SCMA tomorrow. Yeah, so much for be getting all these done before starting back at work -- oops. My reward for finishing them will be to sign up for Metamorphosis: A multi-fandom, multi-genre challenge because really, when was the last time anyone accused me of being sane.

I really should purchase a phonecard at some point. Suggestions?

Oh, i saw my first Woody Allen movie tonight. I was fully expecting to hate Woody Allen and any of his work, but i actually rather enjoyed the movie. Of course my favorite jokes were stuff like, "I'm a bigot, but for the left."

Prior to that he had done accessible (but with a lot of jokes that require some sophistication), funny, often uneven, usually not terribly consequential movies. After "Annie Hall," he famously announced that doing comedy was like sitting at the children's table and made "Interiors," a second rate, self-consciously arty, despairing film.

Then back to comedy that was more artistic and less funny. He's now a niche, with a solid base of fans.

I saw Manhattan before I saw Annie Hall and I still find that I like that one better. I found AH gimmicky (possibly because it's been spoofed and copies since its initial success), but the cinematography in Manhattan is lovely, and the story much richer.

Sorry, can't give any - although if you go on IMDB and click the 'movie connections' link, you'll find plenty. But all of the jaunts into Alfie's imagination (the Rabbi at dinner, the Wicked Queen, etc) spurred a trend, imho.

I saw Allen's movies pretty much in order (in the words of Hermione's brother, "You're old."). "Annie Hall" said to me, "Maybe I'm not irreparably damaged. Maybe I can deal with things and not be a neurotic mess for the rest of my life."

["Interiors" then said, "Look at me. I'm second-rate Bergman."]

And "Manhattan" said, "No, deeply damaged and vaguely dysfunctional is the best I will ever get." He was going backwards. I found it profoundly depressing (though the cinematography is indeed something special. Doctors bury their mistakes. Architects plant ivy.).
