sexonastick started a meme:
There is a huge chunk of you that I don't even have a clue about your first name. I don't know how old a lot of you are, or where you live, or basic normal things.
This is the problem with LJ, we all think we are so close, and we know nothing about each other.
So, I'm going to rectify it.
I want you to ask me something you think you should know about me. Something that should be obvious, but you have no idea about. I promise, I will not make fun of you, or say who asked what.
I then invite you to do the same. Remember, seriously basic stupid questions, don't be embarrassed, you would be really shocked what I don't know about you.
I told her i always suck at the "ask me questions" meme, but she was welcome to ask me anything. One thing she asked was:
What is the most pointless book ever written? (If such a thing can be said to exist.)
for which i didn't have an answer, so i'm curious as to whether anyone else does. And of course you're welcome to participate in the actual meme -- ask me anything you like; doesn't have to be stupid questions but is certainly allowed to be.

So where else are you looking for grad schools?

Date: 2004-06-21 02:27 am (UTC)My current Wood abode is the 3rd house i have ever lived in (not counting Smith housing, of course). We lived in Cambridge but the place had lead paint so when i was a year old we had to move. My mother's mother was moving into senior housing at that time, so we moved into her West Street place. Middle of fifth grade we moved again to where we are now and my brother and i got our own rooms -- woohoo!
So where else are you looking for grad schools?
Brown (http://www.brown.edu/Departments/MCM/)'s still definitely my top choice.
George Mason (http://culturalstudies.gmu.edu/) looks good.
Brock University in Ontario (http://www.brocku.ca/cpcf/MA/) offers an MA in Popular Culture that's a one year program. I know i need a PhD to teach college and i don't know if i'd be able to get into a PhD program in the U.S. with only one year of masters level under my belt. The program includes a dissertation, though, so i should be able to get into a PhD program with little difficulty (though it would really be easiest if i just did a program like Brown's that is a masters progressing on to PhD so you can do it all at one institution instead of having to do the application process all over again for PhD after you've already done it for your masters) but then of course i'm scared about having to come with a topic for a dissertation, research it, and write it, all in a single year. *sighs*
I'm also looking at UC Davis (http://gradstudies.ucdavis.edu/programs/cultural.htm). The application requires a 10+ page writing sample! I'm not sure i've written anything that long in my time at Smith.
Also on the radar are Claremont (http://www.cgu.edu/hum/cul/) and University of Minnesota, Twin Cities campus (http://cscl.cla.umn.edu/grad/complit/), both of whose websites are a bit difficult to decipher.
