traveling, traveling

The weather today was really nice. I just had to say Huzzah for the end of the heat wave.
I will be away with my family July 6-17, visiting relatives. I will have little or no Internet access while i’m gone. Try not to miss me too much. Some sort of summary entry will follow my return home, but i am hoping for a boring vacation. I literally have a duffel bag full of zines, and a few books (Christopher Durang: 27 Short Plays --
athene, after i finish this book i think i will have read all of his published plays -- and Traveling Mercies by Ann Lamott -- thanks to
sk8eeyore for the recommendation). I want us to read LOTR (starting with The Hobbit) in the car ride. (My mom has read aloud on the car ride on vacations for years. We got through Harry Potter Books 2-4, Douglas Adams’ The Ultimate Hitchhiker’s Guide, and Asimov’s Foundation that way.)
Anyway, hopefully i’ll be all rested and re-energized when i get home. I’m working on mix CDs for some of my friends. Most of them are what i call “starter” mixes, intended to expose people to artists i love. I do starter mixes of Christine Lavin, Greg Greenway, Bif Naked, Indigo Girls, Catie Curtis, and Ani DiFranco. If you want any, leave a comment or drop me an e-mail, and i’ll get to it when i get home.
Oh, and Happy Birthday
stumbledhere.
“there is always something to do. there are hungry people to feed, naked people to clothe, sick people to comfort and make well. and while i don’t expect you to save the world i do think that it’s not asking too much for you to love those with whom you sleep, share the happiness of those whom you call your friends, encourage those among you who are visionary and remove from your life those who offer you depression, despair, and disrespect.”

Date: 2002-07-05 08:00 pm (UTC)i keep thinking about making you a "this is high school" mix -- nirvana and alice in chains and soundgarden, etc. do you have thoughts on that?

Date: 2002-07-05 08:30 pm (UTC)high school mix coming up. i made a mix once for someone called "i can't help this longing" and it was all of the cheesy songs i listened to in high school -- like "busted" by matchbox 20 and "insect kin" by bush and "wishful thinking" by duncan sheik (even though i didn't hear that until my first semester of college)... er. anyway. it will be interesting to make the other side of this for you. yes, that's what i was going to say!

Okay, i need to stop and go to bed now. Dad wants to leave at 8 (it's a 10-hour drive down to Maryland).

Date: 2002-07-06 08:47 am (UTC)I received your tape yesterday and have already watched it once -- it was yummy. Odd, some of the lines and scenes that were cut from the other version... Anyway, I've gotten my family hooked on OMWF, too, so I'm sure we'll make good use of it while you're away.
Y'know, I would simply adore starter mixes of Bif Naked, Indigo Girls, and Ani DiFranco -- all artists I've been meaning to listen to for a quite awhile -- if you really wouldn't mind making those for me someday. But by all means stick that to the bottom of your to-do list and take all the time in the world with it; I'm quite a demanding little person, I realize.
Oh, and have a glorious 19th birthday next week! You're an extremely swell person. :)

Date: 2002-07-07 09:51 am (UTC)Yes, i've been told most of what was cut from OMWF, and some of it seems a bit odd, but it's so hard to cut anything from that. So glad you've gotten your family hooked on it and that you'll make good use of the tape. :)
Oh, i will absolutely make you mix CDs. I love making mix CDs, and it's tragic that anyone should be Ani-deprived. She's my favorite to make mixes of, though the fact that she has about 20 albums makes her both the easiest and the most difficult to make mixes of.
Aw, thank you so much for the birthday wishes and the compliments. *blushes*
