My July T-Pass arrived yesterday. Now that I'm living in the city for certain, it really doesn't make sense for me to continue to get a Zone 3 pass, so I went to change my order for August. My understanding from poking at the MBTA website (links below) is that even when it's only a 90 cent bus fare (like going to Target from Davis I think is) I'll still have to pay bus fare (since I'm getting a Subway pass). I feel like I should get to ride busses with fares up to $1.25 (since that's what a subway ride costs) and don't quite understand why they have a separate combo pass instead (esp. because I'm used to how a commuter zone pass lets you ride anything intracity).

I finally got to doing UnitHead's bookshelves this morning. I checked in with Alyssa about whether to go across or down and she said across, which I was prepared to concede to although my instinct is down (years in libraries, what can I do?) but it turned out that the shelves were already largely alphabetized (which was a yay in and of itself) and they went down (score)! Books included The Pearl by Steinbeck (one of the three books I have ever hated with a fiery passion -- Hemingway's Old Man and the Sea and Edith Wharton's Ethan Frome were the others ... all of which I should probably reread [I was in 9th/10th grade when I read them] -- though I should probably add C. S. Lewis' Surprised By Joy to that list given how much I ranted and raved when I finished it ::waves at Emma:: ) and Dickens' Great Expectations. And for my dad ... Economic Analysis of Law, Third Edition (Richard A. Posner) and Tom Schelling's The Strategy of Conflict.

I've decided on August for the apartment-warming but still feel like I should do something for birthday (July 9, two weeks from this Sunday). Should I have a party at my apartment? Should I go away somewhere? (Prof.B. and RA will both be away on personal vacations, so I could extend it beyond just the weekend if I so desired.) Feel free to make suggestions even if you yourself will be unavailable.
