My parents fail at television.

[Again.]

My dad just said, "I think this Wednesday's was a new Veronica Mars, but tonight they're showing a long movie instead of re-airing it." I thought I remembered [livejournal.com profile] wisdomeagle saying this past Wednesday's VMars was a repeat (she did) and some digging found that she was probably right. TVGuide had a blurb for an episode which is probably "Versatile Toppings" for 2/15, but everything else says there's no new VMars until 3/8 (and lists "Versatile Toppings" as the 3/8 episode).

So okay it was partly TVGuide's fault as clearly changes got made after they went to press (as sometimes happens -- witness its opening page for the Feb.20-26 issue -- "Ladies Figure Skating Free Skate, Thursday 2/23, 8/7c [...] Could Michelle Kwan freeze them both out with an unexpected win?") but I still maintain that one should tape the regularly scheduled airing for watching at one's leisure rather than depending upon a re-broadcast. [In his defense, upn38.com heralds "Veronica Mars: Wednesday @ 9pm and Saturday @ 10 pm" -- though the upn.com version merely says "wednesdays 9pm et/pt"]

[Edit: I'm amused at the kinds of posts that get fast flurries of responses.]

queer Harvard and other events

On Thursday, [livejournal.com profile] hedy told me that http://www.calltodutytour.org was gonna be at the Kennedy School this Tuesday.  Googling it to get an exact time/location, I found "the website of the Harvard Bisexual, Gay, Lesbian, Transgender, and Supporters Alliance (more commonly, and succinctly, known as the BGLTSA)".  The first line after that self-descriptor was: "Since our initial bathroom study, the number of gender non-specific bathrooms on campus has gone from approximately 40 to approximately 91. See a list of all of the Gender Non-specific Bathrooms around Harvard!"  Oh so Smith.

I took home the Harvard University Gazette on Friday and read some it, including the calendar [I am very excited to have found an online listing], on the train ride home and oh so very reminiscent of Smith -- lots of evening lectures, many of which conflict with each other, plus lots of ones around 4pm or noon/1pm which of course I can't go to.  And my mom's on the John F. Kennedy Jr. Forum mailing list, so she forwarded me the most recent e-mail.

Feel free to help me decide what to attend :) )

Crash (2005)

[All quotes from IMDb.]

[first lines]
Graham: It's the sense of touch. In any real city, you walk, you know? You brush past people, people bump into you. In L.A., nobody touches you. We're always behind this metal and glass. I think we miss that touch so much, that we crash into each other, just so we can feel something. Read more... )

Fantastic Four (2005)

Thursday night’s CSI and Without a Trace were reruns I’d seen ("Secrets and Flies" 6.06 and "Honor Bound" 4.05, respectively), so I watched Fantastic Four with my mom. When I was at the library last Saturday, Terry asked me if I’d seen it; he’d checked it out but watched it on his lunch so I was free to have it until the next Saturday.

Amusingly, I pulled up amazon.com Monday night it recommended me Fantastic Four because I had purchased Firefly and Serenity. (A while back it recommended Mirrormask to me for the same reason; and recently it also recommended Beast Machines Transformers: The Complete Series to me because I’d bought Gargoyles - The Complete First Season [for a friend, though I have no shame about my enjoyment of that show].)

I always think of Gillian’s ponderments as to why the suddenly superpowered always use their powers for the greater good when I think of this movie. Read more... )
