These two recent stories cover a lot of the bases of Us -- or maybe more accurately many of the bases of who my excellent human is? #Both

Monday, Thom tried on a ModCloth dress she'd bought and was trying to decide if she should order a size smaller. She started a "Thom's Abby's Fashion Questions" group chat with me and some other mutual friends, and in that said:

See also, the distinction I’m trying to learn between “this is cute and it fits on my body” and “this is cute on me”.Tuesday afternoon, in private chat:

Okay. I realized that ModCloth doesn’t do exchanges, just returns. So I will maybe size-sample and order the size down, then return whichever one I like less.
Thom:
Unrelated to pretty much anything, if modcloth is problematic, I don’t want to know. 🙉
I was looking for the order tracking for my size down, and I rediscovered the Wedding Dress BOGO email exchange we had in May of last year. 😂
I don’t think we’re super likely to do traditional white, but I would totally wear this dress for Something Small: https://modcloth.com/collections/wedding/products/twist-of-elate-maxi-dress-white
/me just realized it comes in other colors 😂
me:
"Dearly beloved: We invite you to attend any of our 4 Something Smalls. Please dress to coordinate with the femme bride, whose outfits are pictured below."
Thom:
😍😍😍
Person: “Uh, you can just do one Something Large. Covid restrictions have been lifted."
Abby: “Excuse me, did you not see the FOUR different outfits?"

I also don't love the label gay, bc I'm not, but it trends with the youth
So I go with it when they use it
I know they generally mean it to be inclusive
me:
Oh, have the youths pivoted back to that? /me is a geriatric millennial who is largely out of touch with the youths since I quit Tumblr
Chawntelle:
Sure seems like it
Some of the mid-millenials, too

I mean, I feel like "gay" has been used as an inclusive GLB term off-and-on my whole life -- so even though I'm bi/queer, I've softened on my pedantry somewhat in my old age and will often respond to posts like the "gay awakening" one you shared without even blinking.
Thom:
I’m kind of ambivalent about gay as an umbrella term. But it’s short and pithy so I’ll use it.
I mean, I prefer “queer” as an umbrella term, but not everyone under the larger LGBTQIA+ umbrella wants to be called “queer”, either. 🤷🏻♀️
And as Elizabeth and I have discussed, “queer” has political connotations that “gay” as umbrella term doesn’t necessarily carry.
Like, if I’m being pithy, gay people want same-sex marriage; queer people want the state to get out of their relationships.
Gay people think trans criminals should go to the prison associated with their actual gender; queer people want to abolish prisons.
(Okay, that’s maybe my personal bias showing.)
me:
I appreciate my queer AF abolitionist illegal fuckwife 😘
Thom:
I want to type “gay people want body cameras and civilian oversight boards;…” but now I’m just being a troll.
me:
We decided on a "bridge" React since there's no Troll emoji, right?
