So, this past week and a half has been super-busy, and I'm barely engaged with the Christianity and Anti-Capitalism class I'm auditing, but I was still excited to read this email from the prof:
given the success of this course, I'm developing another for the fall, and I thought it would be good to get some input from those who are already taking this one. Right now, I have three options. One is to do another historical survey, this time looking at Christianity and anti-capitalism around the globe. It would consider, for example, liberation theology in Nicaragua, Christians for Socialism in Chile, and Catholic Maoists in the Philippines, to name a few.
A second is to do a more theoretical course, looking at how six Marxists view religion (e.g. Lenin, Luxemburg, Castro, and others) and how six Christians view Marxism (e.g. Cone, Ruether, McCabe, and others).
A third potential option is to consider Christian-Marxist dialogue in the 20th century, with a goal toward thinking about how this is changing in the 21st century. We would read some of the highwater marks for this dialogue in the first half of the class, and then read some contemporary Christians and Marxists in the second half, constructing some of the dialogue ourselves.
