My housemate to me just now.  She had asked me if I wanted to go to Pi-Con (August 21-23) 'cause she has extra space in her hotel room, and looking at the first day of programming, what was the first thing to really jump out at me?  "Religion in SF"

I haven't actually looked at the programming for WriterCon (which I fly out for this Thursday morning), mind, besides to know that the panel I'm on is Friday at 10am.  I don't even entirely know who from the flist is going.  [livejournal.com profile] itsabigrock, [livejournal.com profile] alixtii, [livejournal.com profile] soundingsea, [livejournal.com profile] mosca, [livejournal.com profile] lunabee34... anyone else?

Interestingly, I find it not only intriguing but also awesome how fandoms and religions often overlap or even involve one another.

In my fandom (furry, in case it wasn't obvious. XD ), every convention has a panel on either a specific faith and how folks relate it to the fandom, and/or an overall panel on the fandom and religion. I usually join in, as I love to discuss therianthropy, shamanism, and various other pagan principals that I hold dear.

Isn't the Buffy world heavily dogmatic? I'm not really a Joss Whedon fan, so I wouldn't really know...seems it, tho.

AWESOME.

Can you say more about what it would mean for the Buffy 'verse to be "dogmatic"?

It seems to me that the vampire/vampyr community is heavily dependent on Christian dogma, orthodox or otherwise, given the nature of such lore. Am I interpreting it wrong, or does some of that play very closely to the supernatural phenomenon of the kind of stories that Joss Whedon writes into his 'Buffyverse'?
