hermionesviolin: (hipster me)

Guess who hadn't been getting enough sleep this week?

I went to bed at like 9:30 last night.  Woke up around 6:30am this morning and got up an hour later.

I haven't done much with my day, though.  All week I was trying to psych myself up for unpacking activities, but that didn't so much happen.  Mostly I'm just really unmotivated (even though the clutter bothers me -- shuddup, mom), but this resurgence of warm (high around 80F today!) weather today was not helping.  When the cold spell hit on Tuesday, Nithya said that she likes the autumn weather but when you're not expecting it...  I was expecting this, having looked at weather.com, but it still tends to suck my energy -- possibly exacerbated by the sudden shift from the cooler weather we'd been having for a few days.

Salon Cu is up to $40 for a cut.  I should probably look for places in Medford, since Medford's likely cheaper than Somerville.  (Though a GoogleMaps search for "haircut" in Medford mostly gets me barber shops.  Sigh.)  [livejournal.com profile] davis_square has offered some possibilities.  Yay, Internet!

At the salon I learned (from the radio) that Hootie and the Blowfish broke up today.  Apparently the lead singer wants to pursue a solo career in country music.  ([livejournal.com profile] traces, you were the first person I thought of when I heard the news.)

Cascade Fresh yogurt is fruit-on-the-bottom, but it's actually fine.  (I had the Marionberry today.)

Is Marianberry a kind of berry, or is it a mixture of berries made up by some person named Marian?

Medford Square has at least five salons and one men's barber shop. I'm not too sure how much they cost, but I've dropped by Bella Capelli and they seem like a nice place.

Wikipedia (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Marionberry) says:
'Marion' (marketed as "Marionberry") or called Marion blackberry is a cross between 'Chehalem' and 'Olallie' (commonly called "olallieberry") berries. It is claimed to "capture the best attributes of both berries and yields an aromatic bouquet and an intense blackberry flavor".

The Marionberry is currently the predominant blackberry (Rubus L. subgenus Rubus) cultivar grown for the global processed-fruit market.

The Marionberry was introduced by G.F. Waldo with USDA-ARS in Corvallis, Oregon in 1956. Adapted to western Oregon, the Marionberry is named after Marion County, Oregon, in which it was tested extensively. Olallie in turn is a cross between loganberry and youngberry. 'Marion', 'Chehalem' and 'Olallie' are just three of the many trailing blackberry cultivars developed by the United States Department of Agriculture Agricultural Research Service (USDA-ARS) blackberry breeding program at Oregon State University in Corvallis, Oregon.
The picture on the container looked like purple-ish strawberries, and it didn't taste like anything particularly distinctive. It was a bit sweeter than I was expecting, but I haven't tried the other Cascade Fresh brand flavors, so I don't know if that's more about the way they make their yogurt than the specific flavor.

Well, keep me updated. I care deeply about yogurt. I know you were on a search for a certain kind of yogurt, but I can't remember what?

My main goal in life is to find tasty yogurt that is fat-free and does not contain aspartame, saccharin, sucralose, or any other form of fake sugar.

OK. Maybe not my main goal in LIFE. But my main goal in the WORLD of YOGURT.

Gelatin-free yogurt :) I may actually make a new sub-tag for it rather than just using the "food: veg" tag.

I just checked the Cascade Fresh ingredients list and it says, "Contains: Grade A Pasteurized Nonfat Milk, Fruit Juice Concentrate, Marionberries, Tapioca, Pectin, Elderberry Juice Concentrate for Color, Natural Flavor, Active Cultures." And, um, I'm not sure why I felt the need to capitalize Germanically, but the point is that it's fat-free yogurt which doesn't appear to have any fake sugar.
