For what it's worth, I had what sounds like a similar gash. It took about two weeks to smooth out, and about 5 days in I was freaking out because the extra skin looked like a dead worm on my wound. I was really upset and stressed that it would not heal smoothly. I was crying to a triage nurse about how worried I was about having frankenstein hand. And it healed just fine. Right now, at 16 days from injury, it's just shiny and red, but it's smooth.

It's too late for stitches at this point. If it doesn't heal smoothly, there's always plastic surgery, but it probably won't come to that.

How deep was it? Are your flexor tendons okay? I had to have one of those repaired months after an injury (when I was 9).

ETA: Are you exposing it to air and light? Mine was pretty gross while I was over-using band-aids. When I started letting it dry out it helped a lot. I also used Neosporin for the first few days.
