"Xerox" as generic is one of the ones that makes me fume (also, "Kleenex"). There's already a perfectly good generic word (which there isn't so much for aspirin). I fully admit that this is largely a result of having read lots of Writer's Digest as a teenager. (The magazine contains lots of ads asking that people use the generic words rather than using trademarks as generics, so I absorbed it.)
