Oh I definitely grant the difficulty of consistency with two separate parents. It drives me up a wall even with married parents, the whole "wait until your father comes home thing," making one parent into the Bad Cop (nevermind that at a young age kids aren't even able to make the cognitive connection between a punishment hours after the act and the bad thing they did).
I got the impression that in this ep there wasn't a dad in the picture, that it was just the mom trying to juggle everything. But I don't think there was any real evidence either way.
