I hate how frequently church talk is full of "Ask and ye shall receive, pray and ye shall be healed, etc." without problematizing it at all.
True. That kind of thinking just underscores the Puritans' notion that we are rewarded/punished in life according to our worthiness spiritually, which is a ridiculous and dangerous idea.
