I actually thought Advent was supposed to be about preparing your heart for Christ to enter into rather than anxiety. We know Jesus came, and Advent is not about the promised Second Coming, and Mary was anxious just because she was gonna have a baby.

I think there's a tradition of Advent as being a season like Lent -- hence purple at both times -- or called "a little Lent." Which no, doesn't mean anxiety, but is still... preparation, waiting. Cleansing ourselves in some of the same ways we cleanse ourselves for Good Friday.
