So, i read the

smithies friendspage, and i've been reading about some woman with an Afro-Caribbean accent calling Smithies and it's this long thing which ends up asking for your credit card number or Social Security Number or something. I remember last year a woman from some weird business thing called and it was this long thing which ended similarly. I have yet to be woken up by the Whispering Woman, but just now my phone rang and i was hopeful because it was the off-campus ring and i'm expecting a number of people to call, but it was a female voice with an Afro-Caribbean accent: "[something unintelligible] You go to Smith College, correct?" "Yes, but I'm afraid I'm not interested, so I'll let you get on to your next person" take a breath while hanging up the phone. I learned well from my father how to deal with unwanted mass callings.

I got called one time by the Whispering Man. I thought it was Aerith at first. I don't remember much of it (it was junior year) but he said something about "are we still meeting tomorrow" and I think I said "yeah" and then he asked "where?" and I said "you know, the usualy place." I had woken up enough at that point to deal with it. The next morning i found out that Aerith didn't call and that several others on the hall got called that night. :)

I definitely talked to a woman with an Afro-Caribbean accent on Thursday. I wonder if it could be the same person calling Hollins?

I got the Afro-Caribbean woman the other day. Unfortunately, she woke me up, so I spent the first five minutes (that being how long it took me to wake up and realize I was actually having a conversation and not sleeping and should therefore entangle myself and hang up, thankfully before I gave out any actual information) talking to her, though I had no idea what, exactly, she was talking about.

Surreal.

And, also, really annoying. Because? Sleep = good.

heh. when i was at mt holyoke 6+ years ago, we had a whispering woman.

I was so scared about that, because I gave her my mom's name and said I had a checking account, but knew enough not to give my SSN. It's good to know that it's not just me, though. The next person to get her should really bitch her out through phone.

Someone should call public safety

I got called by the Whispering Woman my first year here. The phone rang at 4:30 AM, and I was up, because I was crazy like that. I thought it was either my then-boyfriend, because he knew I never slept, or my parents with terrible news. I've heard from other people that she usually doesn't give her name or the name of the person for whom she is calling, but when I asked her who she was trying to reach, she said "Kate. Is Kate there?" She had a scratchy voice and sounded old. I told her that no, Kate wasn't there, and I didn't know one, then I hung up, although I think she would have continued to talk if I hadn't.
