  • I started University of Alberta's Coursera Indigenous Canada (via Tumblr) I'm through the first 2 weeks (out of 12).
movies -- I was bummed that the 6 films I saw this month were almost entirely written/directed by white men :/ Though I would still recommend the documentaries Queercore: How to Punk a Revolution and Dawnland (the latter is about the first Truth and Reconciliation Commission in the USA re: Native children getting taken away from their parents).tvlive theatrepodcastsmusicvisual artother

So I'm taking the Indigenous Canada course, and Coursera's "Get started on Coursera" email (after I signed up a few weeks ago) says. "To develop deep mastery in a particular subject area, join a Specialization - a series of rigorous courses culminating in a Capstone Project." -- but they don't have a Native Studies sort of Specialization; the only other related courses I could find were Aboriginal Worldviews and Education (University of Toronto) and Cultural Competence - Aboriginal Sydney (University of Sydney). I probably also clicked on a few other things while searching/browsing.

Last night, I got a "Recommended courses for you" email from Coursera, and it's interesting to read the list and think about the algorithm that generated this.
