Happy New Year, Church.
Nov. 28th, 2010 02:23 pmSo, at Coffee Hour today, Support Pastor Ian and I talked about my feeling cranky about his having changed stuff about the Rest and Bread service the other week -- he said that he'd had a lot else going on and so in his anxiety he was really trying to follow the list Keith had left, genuinely wanting to do it as it had been done, very conscious that he's a guest in that space, and that if I'd told him in the moment that he was doing stuff differently than it had been done, he actually would have felt really relieved, like, "Thanks be to God, here's someone who knows how to do this" ... so I felt a lot better, knowing where he was coming from, knowing that it was rooted in a desire to do things as they have been done, rather than to impose his own ideas on it, and having it explicitly articulated that he's really open to input from myself or anyone else.
