Possibly I am more affected by grey weather than I like to think?  I went to bed late last night, so I slept in this morning (which is typical) -- and then was dozy reading Diane's book for class and sort of napped and spent much of my day reading fanfic.  Which largely meant rereading-and-finally-feedbacking fic.  I did not get around to putting together any recs, but it's still like I was productive.

And I did do a load of laundry and a load of dishes (after making mac&cheese for dinner), which are objectively productive items.

I did not leave the house until my housemate invited me to IHOP with her and her boyfriend at like 10:30 at night.  (Literally the first time I had left the house all day.  Yes, it was just that kind of a day.)  I haven't been to an IHOP in like forever.  We went to the 24-hour one on... Soliders Field Road?  Apparently their chocolate chip pancakes are now chocolate pancakes with chocolate chips sprinkled over them.  I wasn't impressed, but I still kinda wanna try their holiday Eggnog Pancakes just because.  So I figure I'll just make Terry take me to IHOP.  (I did enjoy my hot chocolate, though, so that's something.)

We got back at like 12:30 or something, but I am only winding down now (having not really begun to perk until late in the evening).  Sigh.

P.S. Remind me that I want to actually go ice skating this winter.

I am not so much interested in critiquing artaxastra's specific post.

But I do think that getting to know the Other is really important.  I think a lot of people are scared of the people on the other side because they don't understand them.  And I think this is true of/on both sides.  I think it's harder to demonize people when you actually know them as people.  And I'm not trying to make the "we're just like you" argument -- I think that can be powerful and useful on an individual level, but of course it's often not true that "we're just like you/them," and I don't think that difference necessarily has to be scary.

At Bible Study after evening church tonight, Tyler asked Tiffany to talk about the Narrative work she does (Marshall Ganz) and she talked about probing for the "why" and talked about how our decisions show our values and how usually we can find shared values.

I feel like I should have much more to say on this, but this is about all I have at the moment.

I am basically only reading my flist on this issue, because I think that will keep my frustration to a minimum, but anyone who wanders here off of friendsfriends or wherever is welcome to comment -- and if there are posts you've seen elsewhere that you think are interesting, feel free to point me to them.
