I'm at my mom's work so i could finish up, and post, my [livejournal.com profile] btvs_santa fic. (Marian and Sean -- the aforementioned aunt and child -- have a 6+ hour drive to get to our house from theirs, so spending the day in Boston doesn't mean missing much of them.)

Am very excited about catching up on a near week's worth of LJ. Because it's the holidays and i'm just doing filter:people (catching up on communities can wait until i'm back at Smith) it's only skip=160, woo hoo.

I hear the guy whose computer i'm on will be coming in at some point today. Damn, i knew i should have brought a book. Maybe i'll just head home early. Or print out some of the fics i'm still working on.

Subject: Over 600,000 have voted on marriage poll
Date: Sunday - December 28, 2003 12:59 PM

Dear Elizabeth,

Participation in America’s Poll on Homosexual Marriage at marriagepoll.com continues at a steady pace. As of noon Saturday, December 28, the results were as follows:
  • I oppose legalization of homosexual marriage and “civil unions” total votes: 201914
  • I favor legalization of homosexual marriage total votes: 378691
  • I favor a “civil union” with the full benefits of marriage except for the name: 52238

If you have not already voted, click here to do so. Be sure to forward the poll on to your family and friends.

Only votes that have a valid email address associated with them will be counted. We will be purging those with invalid email addresses, which may cause poll results to change somewhat.

Sincerely,

Don

Dude, according to the numbers in that e-mail, pro-gay marriage is beating anti-gay marriage by 176,777 votes (229,015 if you include the pro-civil union people).

Happy Belated Birthday, [livejournal.com profile] quasisonic!

Glad you had a good one :)

Well, the guy whose computer this is didn't come in today after all, so i got all caught up on LJ people and e-mail and did an errand for my mother (first time i've ever been in Children's Hospital, i think) and bought myself lunch at Au Bon Pain and came back and read my Secret Slasha fic and got anxious because my Secret Slasha hasn't said anything about her gift fic in her LJ and worked on [livejournal.com profile] lilithchilde's fic.

Return to Smith will mean copious posting.

Anyone know any sites with good information about Saturnalia? I found the two below, but the Net has been generally unhelpful.

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saturnalia
http://www.candlegrove.com/sacaea.html

*remembers [livejournal.com profile] tendollarwords and goes off to post there as well*

edit: Working further on the Saturnalia thing, i have an additional question. The websites i found give a good basic overview (though i'd like confirmation from someone who knows that they're accurate) but i was looking for origins and development, putting it a bit more into context. But working more on this, i'm also curious as to whether similar festivals (reversing the natural order of things) existed outside of the Roman Empire.
