I do not think that you (general, not you, Elizabeth, because you don't)) can hold both the opinion "there is a War on Christmas; we must rally around it" (i.e. Christmas MUST be celebrated, as obnoxiously as possible) and the opinion "Jesus is the reason for the season" (i.e. we should be less consumeristic and concentrate more on the God part than the trappings) honestly. I hear both of these philosophies come out of one person's mouth sometimes, and I think "if we are trying to put Jesus back in Christmas, then we need to give people who aren't Christian the freedom to not celebrate Christmas (or celebrate a secular christmas or whatever) and do their own thing." Because forcing people to celebrate religious Christmas is not in any way okay.
The amount of religious privilege inherent in doing that makes me want to stab things, and it has been bothering me more and more lately.
